iOS 18 has introduced a feature, for iPhones; RCS support. This new development greatly improves messaging interactions between iPhone and Android users. As US carriers start rolling out RCS support for iPhone beta testers through the 18 beta 2 update you may be interested in knowing if your carrier is on board.
Checking for RCS support on your iPhone is a process. Begin by opening the Settings app and tapping on “General.” Next select “About”. Scroll down until you find the eSIM/Network details section. Tap on “Carrier “. The screen will update to show information, about “IMS Status.” If your carrier has activated RCS support you will see “Voice, SMS & RCS” listed there. However if RCS hasn’t been enabled yet you will only see “Voice & SMS.”
Enabling RCS in iOS 18 Settings
Remember to check if your carrier supports RCS and make sure to enable RCS in your iPhone settings. Usually this option is turned on by default. Its a practice to verify it. To do this go to the Settings app scroll down to “Apps ” and select “Messages.” Find the “RCS Messaging” setting and ensure that its switched on.
If you don’t spot RCS functionality, on your iPhone yet there’s no need to fret. Keep in mind that iOS 18 is currently undergoing beta testing and carriers will gradually introduce support for RCS before the release of iOS 18 in September. Once RCS is fully operational you can look forward to features such, as read receipts, typing indicators, high quality images and videos when communicating between iPhones and Android devices.
