Bungie Revamps Destiny 2 with New Release Strategy

Destiny 2 to receive two medium-sized expansions yearly.

Destiny 2’s developer, Bungie, has announced its new release method for the game as it turns ten years old. From now on, Destiny 2 will go for a new model, providing players with two mid-sized expansions and four large free update each year, leaving behind the previous model of one large expansion each year.

This new direction is expected to improve the overall experience of the player by-establishing a multi-year saga with a nonlinear story, together with increasing systemic innovation, and greater improvements to core game activities and their rewards. The first expansion under this new model will be dubbed as Apollo, and is expected to launch in the summer of 2025; Mac Walters called the expansion a “nonlinear character-driven adventure”, which means that the events, which are connected to each other via interwoven threads, can be followed in parallel rather than in a linear fashion.
