Microsofts recent Windows 11 preview build, known as version 27686 introduces significant improvements. These include the support, for 2TB FAT32 storage enhancements to the Windows Sandbox feature and greater control over HDR settings. One unexpected change that has piqued user interest is the capability to set power modes for when the PC is plugged in versus when it operates on battery power.
In iterations of Windows 11 users were limited to selecting a power mode that applied universally across all power states. Although the operating system did make some adjustments to power settings based on whether the device was connected to a power source or running on battery there was no provision within the “Power Mode” setting itself for configurations, in these two scenarios. This lack of flexibility meant that users were unable to tailor their power settings to usage situations.
Greater Flexibility and Control
The latest update, for Windows 11 tackles this problem by giving users options and control over their power settings. With this update users can now customize Power Modes for when their PC’s connected to a power source and when its running on battery. This means that users have the freedom to prioritize performance when their device is plugged in as battery life is not a concern in that situation. On the hand when using the device on battery power users can select a power saving mode to prolong the battery life of their device.
This detailed control over power settings in Windows 11 is an enhancement, for users who wish to enhance their devices performance and battery life according to their requirements and usage patterns. The ability to automatically switch between power modes based on the devices power status ensures that users can make the most of their hardware without needing to settings each time they transition between being plugged in or using battery power.
