Samsung Adopts Google Messages as Default in US

Samsung embraces Google Messages as the default messaging app in the US.

In a move Samsung has made the decision to switch to Google Messages as the default messaging app on its Galaxy devices, in the United States. The Korean tech giant is saying goodbye to its Samsung Messages app, which has been a long standing feature on Galaxy smartphones. This change will go into effect starting with the releases of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 models well as future devices.

Samsungs choice to transition to Google Messages doesn’t come as a surprise given that the company has been phasing out its messaging app since the introduction of the Galaxy S22 in 2022. The decision is based on Googles app offering support for RCS (Rich Communication Services) messages. Up, until now Samsung Messages came preinstalled on Galaxy devices giving users the option to use either app.

A recent announcement, on the Samsung Member app mentioned that starting with the Flip 6 Fold 6 and newer models the Samsung Messages app will no come preloaded. Instead Google Messages will offer an updated experience for expressing emotions and ensuring enjoyable communication. This change is aimed at enhancing users messaging experience with features.

The upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 scheduled to be available for shipping on July 24th will be among the devices to have Google Messages as the default messaging application. With Samsung introducing smartphones and tablets in the US market users can anticipate finding Googles messaging app already installed by default signaling an approach, in Samsungs mobile communication strategy.
