Blizzard has had enough of players using unauthorized input devices like XIM to gain an unfair aim advantage in Overwatch 2 on consoles. In its ongoing battle against cheaters, the developer is ramping up detections and enforcement for the popular hero shooter.
For seasons, some competitive Overwatch 2 players have been exploiting XIM technology to spoof keyboard and mouse inputs, bypassing the intended controller-only input of the console versions. This provided an undeniable edge over those sticking to the intended controller controls. However, Blizzard has now revealed it has detected these unauthorized peripheral users over multiple seasons.
Blizzard Lays Down the Law

Those caught using XIM and other unauthorized input methods will now face harsh penalties depending on the severity of their offenses. The most extreme serial offenders currently face permanent bans. Starting in Season 11, first time offenders will see a week long competitive suspension, while repeated offenses could mean season-long bans or restrictions to non-aim assisted modes.
With Overwatch 2’s focus on competitive fairness, Blizzard hopes these stricter measures will help level the playing field for all console players. There are concerns about accessibility needs, but accommodations are being made to avoid penalizing legitimate users. Official keyboard and mouse support may also come to consoles in the future to properly separate input pools.
