WhatsApp To Introduce Usernames with Optional PIN Security

WhatsApp to bring usernames with optional PIN protection.

WhatsApp, a used messaging platform is planning to introduce a feature that enables users to create custom usernames instead of sharing their phone numbers. This update has been, in the works for quite some time. A recent beta version has uncovered a twist to the upcoming feature; the inclusion of optional PIN security.

As per reports from WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.24.18.2) makes mention of PIN support when setting up a username. This indicates that users will now have the choice to establish a PIN for added security ensuring that only individuals with both the correct PIN can begin conversations, with them. This extra security layer could assist in reducing spam and unwelcome interactions as users can easily modify their PINs if they are compromised.

Apart, from the PIN protection WhatsApp is also set to offer users the ability to choose how their identities appear in chats. Users will likely be able to decide whether to display their phone number when starting a conversation. Opting for showing their username of their phone number can help users maintain a level of privacy while using WhatsApp.

It’s worth mentioning that both the username and PIN features are still in development and not yet accessible to beta testers. Therefore there’s no timeline for when these features will be released to the public. Nevertheless the presence of these features in the beta version indicates that WhatsApp is actively working on improving user privacy and security which’s a step, in todays digital world.
