Netflix to Discontinue Support for Older Apple TV Models

Netflix set to end support for 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TVs.

Netflix recently made an announcement stating that it will no longer support Apple TV devices from the third generations. Users are being notified via email, about this change as Netflix aims to provide the viewing experience for its subscribers.

The second and third generation Apple TV models, which were released before tvOS and do not have access to the App Store have been classified as ” products” by Apple for some time. Therefore it’s not surprising that Netflix has decided to discontinue support for these devices following actions taken by streaming services, like YouTube and Crunchyroll in recent years.

Upgrade Your Apple TV to Continue Enjoying Netflix

Netflix to Discontinue Support for Older Apple TV Models

If you want to keep watching Netflix on your Apple TV consider upgrading to a model. Models released after the generation, like the Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K won’t be affected by this change. These newer devices offer access to the App Store. Include a Siri remote for a better viewing experience.

Alternatively you could go for Roku Streaming devices, which also support Netflix and other popular streaming services. There are currently some deals, on Roku hardware making it a good time to switch over. No matter which platform you choose make sure you have a television to enjoy all your Netflix shows.
