Google Maps is getting an update to boost its navigation features bringing it closer, to Waze, its sister app. The recent enhancements to Google Maps include a revamped system for reporting incidents and improved guidance to destinations making the navigation experience more user friendly and intuitive.
A notable feature in this update is the introduction of incident reporting similar to Waze. Users of Google Maps can now easily share information about road closures, construction, speed cameras and police presence using more visible icons. The app will encourage drivers to confirm these incidents with a tap ensuring that the information is accurate and up, to date.
Destination Guidance and Parking Assistance

Furthermore Google Maps is rolling out a feature, for destination guidance alongside the enhanced incident reporting. When users near their destination the app will mark the building in red. Display a green indicator pointing to its main entrance. This visual cue aims to assist users in identifying the building and entrance ultimately saving time and reducing potential confusion.
Additionally Google Maps will now show parking lots making it simpler for drivers to locate a spot to park their vehicles. Despite the similarities shared by Google Maps and Waze both apps will remain entities catering to the preferences of their respective user communities. Waze boasting a community of over 500,000 contributors is also getting updates such as support for reporting types of traffic cameras and a dedicated feature, for road closures related to events.
