Xbox Game Pass has continued to grow its subscriber base, with Microsoft announcing the service has now surpassed 34 million users. In a casual chat with fans on the official Xbox podcast, Spencer shared the new subscriber count while also teasing some exciting news. He revealed select Xbox exclusive titles would soon be making their way to the immensely popular PlayStation and Nintendo platforms. This move aims to put more focus on games themselves, rather than the consoles or storefronts that deliver them.
Xbox Game Pass Continues Expanding Horizons
While Xbox Game Pass started primarily as a way to enjoy 100+ titles on console, the service has since branched out. Spencer explained gamers are flocking to play through the cloud with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This allows playing on a wider range of devices such as mobile phones and tablets. Microsoft also converted existing Xbox Live Gold members to Xbox Game Pass Core at no extra cost last year. Both these efforts have undoubtedly contributed to the subscriber surge.
Yet Spencer was quick to clarify their goal isn’t getting everyone signed up. “We want Xbox Game Pass to be successful of course, but our main focus remains on delivering top games,” he said. Only around 15% of Microsoft’s current revenue comes directly from subscriptions. So they plan balancing Xbox Game Pass growth alongside traditional sales avenues.
