The Witcher 4 Development is in Full Swing, CD Projekt Focuses Efforts On The Next Installment

CD Projekt focuses efforts on The Witcher 4 development.

CD Projekt Red has shifted priorities to the upcoming The Witcher 4 with over 400 developers now devoted to the project. After wrapping up work on Cyberpunk 2077, the Polish studio is channeling the bulk of its resources into crafting the next chapter in Geralt’s story.

Dubbed Polaris, early details on The Witcher 4 are still scarce but CD Projekt has provided an inside look at its development status. Over 600 people currently work across the studio’s projects, with more than half dedicated to bringing Polaris to life using Unreal Engine 5.

While Cyberpunk 2077 spin-off Orion has a team of 47 working on its early concept stage, it’s clear The Witcher 4 is CD Projekt’s foremost focus. During an earnings call, the developer was transparent about allocating over 400 employees to the highly anticipated sequel. This number has grown from 330 developers reported on last November.

Shifting Priorities to The Witcher Franchise

With the bulk of Cyberpunk 2077’s content and issues now addressed, CD Projekt has shifted the bulk of its development efforts towards Polaris. While still early in pre-production, the studio aims to tell an even more intense story for Geralt’s next adventure. CD Projekt co-CEO Adam Kiciński estimated a 2023 release is at least three years away, suggesting fans may not see The Witcher 4 until late 2025 at the earliest.

For now, anticipation builds as CD Projekt commits over half of its workforce to crafting the next chapter for Geralt of Rivia. Fans can expect Polaris to take full advantage of Unreal Engine 5‘s capabilities when it emerges on current and next-gen platforms. With such a significant portion of the studio devoted to its development, The Witcher 4 appears to be CD Projekt’s biggest priority as they look towards the future.
