Konami and WayForward are back with Contra Operation Galuga, a new chapter in the iconic side-scrolling, run-and-gun series. This latest release guarantees an exhilarating and action packed adventure, which has always been a trademark of the Contra series since the 1980s.
Contra Operation Galuga expands upon the story of the Contra game. The action takes place in the Galuga Archipelago, which’s, under attack by the Red Falcon terrorist organization. To combat this danger Earths Marine Corps sends their top notch soldiers, including individuals like Bill Rizer and Lance Bean. With over six characters each, with their unique abilities and background stories players are able to enjoy a wide range of combat styles and strategies.
Expanding the Contra Universe
The game goes beyond having a narrative; it also provides an opportunity to test and push your limits. Contra Operation Galuga introduces a Challenge Mode with 30 tough missions, pushing players to their limits with tasks like speedrunning, limited ammo, and more.
It’s great to see that the game doesn’t have any microtransactions. Instead players can use, in game credits at the Perk Shop to improve their abilities, select weapons and receive bonuses. This approach values the skills and commitment of players allowing each player to have, up to two perks.
Contra Operation Galuga is set for release in early 2024 on major platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It’s a combination of memories and modern gaming making it ideal, for both die hard fans and those who are new, to the series.
