Oasis hoped for in the gloom, the “Fallout 4 Next Gen Update” emerged this week to weather the post-apocalyptic wastes of Boston anew. But where players foresaw refuge, only ruin has reigned, as countless conundrums currently cripple the Commonwealth across platforms. From missing textures to missing features, this upgraded expedition has encountered more than its share of troubles from the start.
On PlayStation and Xbox, access has proven irradiated, with free upgrades barred or absent modes leaving users wanting. Steam brings its own suite of issues, with mods malfunctioning and longstanding bugs bloating rather than banishing as promised. Even basic functions fail to function for some, starting the journey in the wrong direction from the outset.
When Patches Prove Problematic
For those surviving the setup, the scorched experience offers little shelter. Graphics glitches gangrenous the landscape, while frame rates wither where frames should flourish. Baffling bugs long banished have brazenly returned, irradiating the experience. And reports of certain systems refusing to run render the whole Fallout 4 Next Gen Update upgrade essentially useless.
With any luck, lively livability will emerge once the long winter of patching passes. But for now, the Capital Wasteland awaits those abandoning the blighted Commonwealth in search of a more stable experience.
