In a surprising turn of events, the gaming community has been buzzing with the discovery of a prototype for the 2004 PS2 Daredevil Game. The game called “Daredevil; The Man Without Fear” was almost finished in 2004 but got abruptly canceled.
Recently The Hidden Palace, a group dedicated to preserving video games showcased this prototype. Their sources include a developer, from the games team and a gaming enthusiast named ‘SolidSnake11’ who made some improvements to make the prototype playable.
“Daredevil; The Man Without Fear” was envisioned as an action packed third person game inspired by Frank Millers Marvel superhero comic. It was being developed by 5,000 Ft Studios. Planned for release on PS2, Xbox and PC with Encore Inc. As the publisher.
The games story drew from the “Elektra Lives comic. Began with The Kingpins assassination. This event sparks a gang war in Hell’s Kitchen. Players would have experienced Daredevils abilities such as wall grappling and using the Shadow World feature to detect life forms. However the development process encountered some challenges along the way.
Sony and Marvel had visions for the game. Sony insisted on incorporating a grinding mechanic to Tony Hawk’s Pro series, which resulted in significant changes, to the games scope and engine problems.
Due, to a combination of staff members leaving and Marvels dissatisfaction, with the games direction the game was ultimately canceled in 2004. While 2003 did witness a Daredevil game release for the Game Boy Advance, it was distinct from the 2004 PS2 Daredevil Game. The cancellation of the game was a letdown, for Daredevils gaming legacy.
Yet, there’s a glimmer of hope. Speculations are rife about Daredevil’s potential return in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, thanks to certain Easter eggs in Insomniac’s previous Spider-Man games. Only time will tell if Daredevil will swing back into the gaming world.
