Game sharing on Xbox allows you to share your digital game library with a friend, allowing both of you to play each other’s games without needing to purchase them separately.
This is accomplished using the “Home Xbox” feature. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to set up game sharing on Xbox:
- Get your friend’s Xbox account details: To game share, you’ll need your friend’s Xbox account email and password. Make sure you trust the person you’re game sharing with, as you’ll be exchanging sensitive information.
- Log in to your friend’s account on your Xbox: On your Xbox console, press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide. Scroll left to the “Profile & system” tab, and then select “Add or switch” to add a new account. Enter your friend’s Xbox account email and password to log in.
- Set your Xbox as your friend’s Home Xbox: After you’ve logged in to your friend’s account, open the guide again, scroll left to the “Profile & system” tab, and then select “Settings.” Under the “General” section, select “Personalization,” and then choose “My home Xbox.” Select “Make this my home Xbox” to set your console as your friend’s Home Xbox.
- Log out of your friend’s account: Once you’ve set your console as your friend’s Home Xbox, you can log out of their account. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, scroll left to the “Profile & system” tab, and then select your friend’s account. Choose “Sign out” to log out of their account.
- Have your friend repeat the process: Your friend will need to follow the same steps on their Xbox console, using your account information. They’ll log in to your account, set their Xbox as your Home Xbox, and then log out of your account.
- Access shared games: Now that you’ve set up game sharing, you can both access each other’s digital game libraries. To do this, press the Xbox button to open the guide, scroll left to the “Profile & system” tab, and then select “My games & apps.” In the “My games & apps” section, choose “See all,” and then navigate to the “Full library” tab. From here, you can access your friend’s games under the “All owned games” section.
- Enjoy game sharing: You can now download and play each other’s digital games without needing to purchase them separately. Keep in mind that game sharing works for digital games only, not for physical game discs.
Remember that game sharing should be done only with people you trust, as sharing account information can pose security risks. Additionally, game sharing is intended for sharing games within the same household. Misuse of the feature may lead to account restrictions or suspensions.
