YouTube Music has made it simpler for Android users to discover their songs by introducing a song search feature. The known music streaming service has begun releasing a “Play, sing or hum a song” option that enables users to recognize songs by playing, singing or humming the tune.
To utilize this feature users can click on the magnifying glass icon situated in the right corner of the YouTube Music app. In addition, to the microphone icon, for voice search a new waveform icon has been included to indicate the song search function. Although having both icons placed side by side may appear unusual it effectively distinguishes between the two search methods.
AI-Powered Song Identification
The song search function, in YouTube Music uses AI technology to match the users input with the recording. This feature is an extension of the Pixels Playing feature and a similar one introduced in the YouTube app last year. The identification process is impressively quick providing results within seconds of the users input.
After identifying a song YouTube Music displays a full screen results page showing the songs cover art, title, artist, album, release year and even the users download or offline status. Users can easily play the song. Save it to their library using shortcuts. Additional options are also available through the overflow menu. The song search feature is currently being rolled out to Android users with version 7.02 of the YouTube Music app. Will soon be available, for iOS users well.
