Expanding Playables to all YouTube users shows the companys increasing interest, in the gaming industry. This decision comes after a trial period year, where only YouTube Premium subscribers could access a limited game selection. The trial phase ended in March this year setting the stage for a release.
YouTubes choice to offer games to its user base reflects a trend seen among tech companies and content providers. Platforms like LinkedIn, The New York Times, Hearst and even Netflix have integrated gaming features to engage and retain their audience. While Googles parent company had previously explored gaming, with Stadia focusing on games through Playables seems like a straightforward and user friendly approach.
