A recent alert has been issued to Google Chrome users advising them to update their browsers due, to a significant security flaw. The identified bug, known as CVE 2024 5274 is a type confusion problem within the V8 JavaScript and WebAssembly engine which malicious actors have been exploiting.
The discovery of this vulnerability was made by the Google Threat Analysis team. Chrome Security on May 20th. It has led to instances of memory access in the V8 JavaScript engine of Google Chrome posing a risk to user safety. To mitigate this security concern experts recommend that users install the version of Google Chrome (125.0.6422.112/.113 for Windows and macOS and 125.0.6422.112, for Linux).

Besides Google Chrome individuals using Chromium based browsers, like Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera and Vivaldi are also recommended to install the updates promptly once they are released. To safeguard themselves from this zero day vulnerability Google Chrome users should act promptly by launching their browser selecting the three dot menu icon located at the corner and accessing Settings. From there users can select “About Chrome” to verify for updates and have them installed automatically. Upon completion of the update process clicking “Relaunch to update” will implement the fix.
