The hit rogue-like deckbuilder Slay the Spire 2 has been officially unveiled in an exciting announcement. Mega Crit Games revealed our first look at the highly anticipated sequel during the Triple-I showcase earlier this week.
Fans of the original will be thrilled to see familiar faces return, with screenshots confirming legacy characters the Ironclad and Silent will punch and sneak their way through the spires once more. A brand new fighter was also introduced – the Necrobinder, described as “A wandering lich who seeks to bind the forgotten corpse. Calls up on her trusty left hand, Osty in combat.”.
As well as new characters, players can expect fresh environments and enemies to encounter on their climb. While staying true to the formula that made the first a phenomenon, Mega Crit looks to be expanding the world and gameplay. The announcement has sent ripples of excitement through the card-battling community eager to get their hands on more of the acclaimed Slay the Spire experience.
A New Engine But Familiar Foundations

In a surprise change, Mega Crit has opted to use the open source Godot engine over Unity for Slay the Spire 2. This follows Unity‘s controversial license fee changes which the studio strongly opposed. However gameplay screenshots released so far suggest the shift in technology has not disrupted the distinctive Slay the Spire visual style fans adore.
Mega Crit aims to have Slay the Spire 2 enter early access by 2025, giving players their first taste of the sequel while continuing development. This will be the chance for the community to provide feedback and help shape the final product. With the original still hugely popular, anticipation is high for what new depths the Slay the Spire series can plumb in its next chapter.
Slay the Spire captured lightning in a bottle by blending addictive rogue-like runs with deep card collection. Its announcement is sure to excite the millions already enthralled by its unique formula. Fans can look forward to getting reacquainted with old friends and facing fresh challenges when Slay the Spire 2 begins its early access journey next year.
