Apple has introduced a game changing feature in the iOS 18 update called the Recovered Album. This new addition, to the Photos app aims to help iPhone users who have lost or damaged media files. The Recovered Album serves as a safety net by scanning devices for photos and videos that may have been overlooked in the Photos Library.
Unlike a folder the Recovered Album is a tool that can handle various situations leading to missing media. Whether its due to database issues third party app errors or problems with camera apps saving images correctly this feature is designed to address these concerns. You can find the Recovered Album, in the Utilities section of the Photos app. It will only show up when there is content that can be recovered preventing clutter in your interface.
How to Use the Recovered Album

Using the Recovered Album is pretty simple. To access it users just need to go to the Albums tab within the Photos app scroll down to the Utilities section and click on the Recovered Album if its there. Inside they can choose items or use the Select option for multiple files. Users then have the choice to either restore these lost treasures back, into their library or permanently delete them if they’re no longer wanted.
This cool new feature isn’t exclusive to iPhones; it’s also accessible on iPads with iPadOS 18 and Macs running macOS Sequoia. The introduction of the Recovered Album follows a bug in iOS 17.5 and iPadOS 17.5 where deleted photos suddenly reappeared in some users libraries. Apple attributes this issue to a database problem, which the new Recovered Album feature aims to prevent in occurrences. With iOS 18 iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia getting ready, for their release this autumn the Recovered Album showcases Apples dedication to safeguarding our memories and improving user satisfaction.
