New Feature Lets You Know If Your WhatsApp Chat Is Secure

Meta introducing a new feature that displays a label under contacts indicating if your WhatsApp chat is end-to-end encrypted.

WhatsApp, the popular messaging platform owned by Meta, is always working to improve user privacy and security. In its latest beta update, WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that makes it clear if your WhatsApp chat is securely encrypted or not.

The new feature displays a label under each contact or group chat stating whether the conversation is end-to-end encrypted. End-to-end encryption ensures only the participants in a chat can read messages and calls, protecting conversations from being seen by third parties. The label lets users easily see which of their WhatsApp chats are securely encrypted in this manner.

How Does the New Feature Work?

When you open a chat with a contact or group, you will now see a label below their name or message indicating “End-to-end encrypted.” This label serves as a clear visual cue that messages and calls in that particular WhatsApp chat are protected from unauthorized access thanks to end-to-end encryption. The label is currently only visible temporarily but is meant to reassure users that specific conversations are securely encrypted.

The new feature is currently in beta testing on WhatsApp for Android but is expected to roll out more widely soon. As one of the largest messaging platforms, WhatsApp takes user privacy extremely seriously. This small update is aimed at making it simple for users to identify which of their private WhatsApp chats benefit from the strongest protection of end-to-end encryption.
