Microsoft has again announced job cuts affecting workers, in departments and locations. The tech company based in Redmond did not disclose the number of employees impacted by these layoffs. Based on posts shared on LinkedIn by staff members the job cuts at Microsoft have impacted those in product and program management positions.

The company mentioned that these changes in organization and workforce are measures for running its operations smoothly. It assured that it will focus on investing in areas to support its customers and partners, for growth.

The recent round of job cuts, at Microsoft coincided with the end of the companys year 2024 on June 30. It’s a practice for Microsoft to reorganize its operations as it ushers in a fiscal year. This latest wave of layoffs mirrors a move made month, where approximately 1,000 positions were eliminated across different departments, including the Azure cloud division and HoloLens mixed reality team.

Changes within Microsofts workforce have been notable in years. While the company saw a surge in employee numbers during the pandemic it has since stabilized. Reports from filings and earnings announcements indicate that Microsoft had around 227,000 employees globally by the end of the 2023 calendar year down from the 232,000 reported in the year. With a focus on navigating todays landscape and balancing profitability with investments for growth further adjustments, to its employee base may be forthcoming.
