This trend is a response to the concern that criminals might utilize Google Maps street view images to survey properties pinpointing security weaknesses like side windows, fences and camera positions.
Jarid Zuetel, a burglary investigator from Riverside, California emphasized this problem by noting that thieves are increasingly exploiting technology for their benefit. According to interviews with apprehended burglars they frequently rely on platforms such as Google Maps to scout houses, before attempting break ins.

Cybersecurity expert Jay Gehringer highlights the importance of blurring your homes location on Google Maps for security. To blur your property you can simply find it on Google Maps select “report a problem” at the corner answer a few questions and submit your request to Google. Once the blurring is done it cannot be reversed.
