Following the success of the Banana game, on Steam a new rival has entered the scene called Cats. This clicker game operates on the principle of granting Steam items to players who continuously click on images. The sudden surge in popularity of these games has caught the gaming community off guard.
Cats made its debut on May 21 2024. Has already attracted a number of players reaching a peak of 48,554 concurrent players, within just one day of its launch. The gameplay mirrors that of Banana, where players click on animated cats to receive item rewards that can potentially be traded for money on the Steam Marketplace.
The Allure of Real Money Rewards

Both Banana and Cats have gained popularity due, to the opportunity for players to make money by selling their acquired items on the Steam Marketplace. While some items are common and of value rare drops can fetch a profit. This incentive has attracted players although its possible that many of these “players” are actually bots created to gather items.
Despite the aspects of these games their popularity keeps growing. With Banana surpassing PC games on Steam and Cats closely following suit it remains uncertain how long this trend will last and how Valve will address the sudden rise of clicker games, on their platform.
